My First Glossier Purchase: Hits and Misses

Glossier: everything from the alluring name to the minimalist packaging to the dreamy, sun-kissed vibes has got the beauty community swooning over Emily Weiss’s iconic brand.

Shockingly enough, this is my first time making a purchase. How I have waited so long I don’t know. I went ahead and ordered three products that I had been hearing good things about and I’m here to give you the low down on what I liked and what I didn’t.

If there’s one thing I’m sold on its Glossier’s packaging.

Perfecting Skin Tint sheer skin enhancer – HIT

I was skeptical about this product upon purchasing it. I’m not usually one to use BB or CC creams, preferring to stick with a low to medium coverage foundation. But this tint truly evens out skin tone, hides discoloration, and provides an overall smoothing effect. Yet it manages to appear invisible. If I want a bit more coverage, I’ll mix this product with one of my regular foundations. If you’re an avid user of BB creams and tinted moisturizer, I absolutely recommend this product! I think it will be perfect come summertime when it’s too hot to be wearing heavy face products.

Wowder finishing powder – MISS

I have to say – I’m not exactly wowed by Glossier’s Wowder finishing powder. If you read my Laura Mercier product review back in November, you’ll know how obsessed I am with the Translucent Loose Setting Powderit’s lightweight, sheer, and oh so mattifying without drying out the skin. Glossier’s Wowder just doesn’t compare. There are only three colour options, and the lightest option is pretty orange. Wowder also claims to “undo the dew” which is does… for about ten minutes. I was almost immediately disappointed with how quickly my face became oily after applying this powder – and I don’t even have oily skin! There are definitely people who have raved about this product so you may love it too! But unfortunately for me, this powder just didn’t live up to its name.

Generation G sheer matte lipstick – Jam” – HIT & MISS

What to say? Perhaps it’s me? Maybe it’s the colour? For whatever reason this lipstick application is not my favourite. Maybe it’s the time of year, but I find the Generation G sheer matte lipstick highlights every bit of dry skin on my lips that only moments before the application weren’t even visible! I’m going to play around with it a bit more because the colour really is lovely, but I’d recommend going in with a good lib scrub before throwing on this lippy.

So overall, I’m a bit underwhelmed, but I’m eager to try more from Glossier. So let me know in the comments below what you’ve tried and loved! And hopefully I’ll have better luck with my next purchase.

I find the cheek tints very natural looking and easy to use and I don’t normally like cream blush products – they have a fairly thin consistency so it doesn’t feel cakey and you can use your fingers to blend out. The cleanser is really good for me for taking off my makeup – it’s sort of like a hybrid between a cleansing oil and a mild cleanser but I like that it doesn’t burn my eyes like a lot of cleansing oils do. Apparently it doesn’t take off waterproof eye makeup very well but that’s not an issue for me.

Same, I’m hesitant with cream blush, but I definitely want to try the cloud paints! Good to know about the cleanser. 🙂

Ouuu I love the Glossier packaging, but I’ve heard similar things! I think it’s great if you’re going for a super natural look, but if you’re a makeup-makeup person, then it’s just okay! Great review girly 🙂

Thanks lady! I’m going to try a few more products and see what happens – I think I may have just chosen the wrong ones. Merp.
